SECURE the Job Journey - Day 3

Plan for the Day

  1. Find 5 cool adaptive reuse projects around Atlanta and reach out to the folks running them to learn more

  2. Sign up for a volunteering event for later in the week to get your hands working on something. That way I wont be in this apartment feeling as useless as a piece of moldy bread.

  3. Fill out 10 more job applications and reach out to people connected to the job title and company you are applying for.

  4. Dust off old LinkedIn convos

What I Actually Executed

Tasks 1 & 4. I spent a lot of time talking with people and responding to people from the previous day so I didn’t get to apply to any jobs today. I did reach out to folks I know at certain companies and inquire about openings I saw. So I’d say I kiiiiiinda touched on Task 3. I reached out to folks connected to the jobs I added to my spready, I just didn’t fill them out. I had some other things to do so I feel like I couldn’t get to everything, but I moved the needle a bit. OH, with Task 1, I still need to reach out to folks- I found the cool projects, it’s just to reach out.

Results

People actually hit me back! The needle moved! I got some calls scheduled!!  Things are moving. It’s nice that folks are happy to hear from me and because I’m coming back with more experience I don’t feel like I’m coming back to some old contacts with my tail between my legs begging for crumbs. I’m back with MORE to offer. I’m taking some time from my other job hunting tasks to prepare for a call that I have tomorrow with someone. Even though it’s just a phone call, my overly-planning nature forces me to prep for it. I document how I prep for calls HERE.

Reflection

Today was nice, it’s nice knowing that folks are happy to help me or hear from me. Sliiiick feels like I’m stuntin’ a little bit with all this new experience and qualifications. It feels nice. I’m feeling more hopeful. I think moving forward I’m gonna start getting my elevator pitches and responses to interview questions ready. I need to get on my game with speaking to my skills in relation to the job at hand. I have a lot to bring and it’s time to relay that to the people hiring.
