What I Actually Executed
Everything! Another day of excellence (not perfection). I got to three jobs today, but over the weekend (which is where I try not to do job hunting stuff), I applied to 5. I also discovered this Partnership for Inclusive Innovation Fellowship (PIN) Fellowship and it seems pretty cool.
Results/Updates
The calls were great, there was one call with a fellow young black woman in sustainability that I got to share info on some orgs with black women in this space (Climate Consortium, Black Girl, Green Earth, and Girl Plus Environment). I finally felt useful in a convo with someone lol. I had another call today and she put me on to more openings and more orgs.
Reflection
Let’s talk about this weekend. Amazing! I went to the Black Faces, Green Spaces Event hosted by Black Girl, Green Earth. It was great socializing with other black women in this space and learning about more opportunities in this space. One girl I met let me know about the Dept of Watershed Management Career Fair happening in the week and the jobs open with the City of Atlanta. I felt sooo full. It’s so nice to be taken out of my silo to connect with other black women in sustainability. Also this is a new org and was the first event. It gave me hope with the platform I’m creating. Black Girl, Green Earth is needed and is already providing a safe space. Seeing an org be built from the beginning shows me that it’s possible to build OffGreenThumb up. There’s so much room for us. The internet is not over-saturated. Everyone has something unique to bring, and especially for black women, we need as many safe spaces that we can get. I love it!
Ok, now today! My confidence is UP!! These two talks really put a fire in me . I have something to bring. Yes, I’m job hunting, but I don’t need to be entertaining positions that don’t appeal to me or pay me enough. I’m not desperate. I am valuable, talented, and qualified enough to be considered for a role where I can contribute to meaningful projects AND be paid WELL.
And that's on the WHOLE, ENTIRE and COMPLETE PERIODic table.
I’m not settling because now I know I don’t have to. No more ground nuts and garri, its jollof rice and chicken (with Edikang Ikong and eba) from here on out!
