SECURE the Job Journey - Introduction

I have been on this job hunting journey for some time and from experience, I can tell you that it’s ABSOLUTELY painful. From the exhaustive, long applications, to getting straight up ghosted after a seemingly good several rounds of interviews…

THIS SH*T AIN’T FOR THE WEAK

Since graduating from grad school I have decided to be a bit more creative and step outside of my comfort zone. I know it’s going to be a bit of a bumpy ride, so I decided to just get comfortable with the things I will have to accept:

• It will be hard

• I will face rejection

• I will cry at times

• It will feel like things were easier for the next person 

• I will feel like giving up

• I will cry some more

• I will feel like giving up… again

• I will buy a new plant because I keep crying

• I will finally get an interview (and they may ghost me)

• I may not get the job that I know I am fully qualified for

• I might get another interview

• I still may not get the job

• I will figure out how this job hunting thing works and find my flow

• I will have to be brave and put myself out there beyond just filling out online applications

• I will eventually meet the right people

• I will end up getting into my field in a way I never imagined

• I will cry again (but this time it will be tears of joy)

• I will spoil myself with several new plants

It’s going to be a long road building my career, but honestly, documenting my journey makes me feel like all this pain I will go through isn’t life just torturing me for fun. This can hopefully encourage another job seeker (especially one in the environmental space) and let them know that they aren’t alone.

So for the job seekers out there reading this… GOOD LUCK!

And yes, I also hope that recruiter that reached out to you, got your hopes up about a potential job opportunity, and then ghosted you stubs their toe everyday for the rest of their wretched life.
