SECURE the Job Journey - Day 36

Plan for the Day

  1. Apply to jobs on the spready

  2. Freshen up on my R programming skills

  3. Prep for my networking call today

What I Actually Executed

EVERYTHING!!

Results/Updates

I got a message on LinkedIn around 9:30am from a recruiter wanting to fill a GIS Analyst role!! I didn't see it unti 2:30… DARNICLES!! I hope he didn’t move on to someone else.

Also I had a GREAT call with a fellow black woman who works in geospatial analysis. It’s really refreshing seeing other black Data Girlies (Data Divas has a better ring to it - lol alliteration) . She really affirmed my skills and it felt soooo good to put her on to the communities I’m part of. Also, it encouraged me to dig into some of my R and GIS stuff. It’s been a minute. Talking to her was great because she gave me some more language for how to describe my work in this space.

Reflection

I spent most of the day working through the R for Data Science to freshen up on my skills with R. I got interviews coming up and I wanna make sure I can speak to my skills. It was a light day. There was more prepping for interviews than making new connections and filling out apps. I’m ok with that. It still pushes me forward.

I think these next upcoming days, I’m gonna focus on going through my GIS and R stuff to just make sure I’m confident with these things. I’ve been in job hunting mode with networking and filling out applications, but I need not forget to keep my skills fresh. THAT’S what matters. Plus I think I need to switch it up a bit and add some flavor to my days.

Tonight, I’m allowing myself to call today a success and go to bed at a Godly hour as not to throw off my morning. I feel like I’ve been operating beneath what I KNOW I can do and I wanna do better. I refuse to be out here useless like moldy bread. I can and WILL do better!
