What I Actually Executed

I got to Tasks 1-3 fully and then merely tickled Task 4. I didn't get to Tasks 5 & 6 (even though I feel like I got a flow now and could have knocked them out) because I got caught up with doing stuff for this blog. So I was still productive TBH. These tasks are gonna just roll over to the next day (again).

Results/Updates

Soooo I got a GIS Tech interview at ANOTHER company and within the SAME day, I got a second interview request for the Sustainability Analyst position!! It’s moving fast over there! Wow! I had a call today with a GIS Tech position with a forestry company and had to turn it down because of the lower pay and it was like 4 hours away. They would have paid for my hotel and given me per diem but tbh the hassle wasn’t worth the pay. I’m learning to have standards for my Yes because my Yes isn’t free. Also I had a good talk with someone that does a lot of life cycle assessments (LCAs) in their role. She told me to use keywords to set job alerts for LinkedIn AND she offered to refer me for jobs that I find interesting in their org. I also learned some new keywords to look into on LinkedIn: techno economic analysis and life cycle cost.

Reflection

I’m learning when a job isn’t for me. The GIS tech role wasn’t it for me and it required a commute to a place 4 hours away. I don't need to say yes to everything. The pay was beneath what I needed and it is faaaar from home. Like it would have required me to be ALLLL the way in South GA in a hotel (which idek if it would have been nice) Monday to Friday. Soo I’d be paying rent for an apartment I’m not even using with a lower salary AND, I didn't hear the recruiter saying anything about me actually using GIS. My spirit was kicking against the role while she was talking to me the whole time. I’m learning that EYE can be choosy too, not just the hiring manager. Let me not be the job seeker version of a “pick-me” lol. Giving my PRECIOUS Yes to too many opportunities out of fear is what has put me in situations where I was underpaid, overworked, stressed, and resentful.

NEVER TF AGAIN!!!!!!

The Sustainability Analyst interview went really good! I feel like I'm at a place where I have a better command over the language to describe my skills. I have  a better sense of what I bring AND what I want from a role.

I feel like my job hunting journey is coming to an end. I’m nervous about making the wrong decision, but excited about setting down roots somewhere. I noticed my prayers have changed from “God give me X job @ Y Company” to now “God just help me choose the right job”.  I’ll honor where my heart is pulled, while remembering that I have a limited view of the whole picture. What a blessing that I’m only 34 days in and I’ve had interviews and even have the whole, organic, unrefined, unmitigated gall to already say No to a job. Maybe this is a sign of growth and an exercise of faith.

Side note: It does take a bit of stress off me to just ask God to choose for me. I’m getting into cloudy territory and it feels good to know that EYE don’t have to make the hard decisions on my own. I can ask for guidance. Hmmm so maybe this is what the saints (& a’ints) be talking about when they say “cast your cares”
